More Blood
“There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.” - Hemingway
There’s some Churchillian Drift happening with that quote but it remains one of my favorites.
As I get older and collect more responsibilities I feel like I could use a bit more bleeding. My thinking isn’t as sharp as I want it to be. Writing feels like the right way to push back. I’m going to start writing consistently to get better.
I do not know what metrics to track. I suspect they will reveal themselves as I go. For now I’m starting off with one forcing function, a single essay each week.
This first one is the easiest. It took about 30 minutes to write and marks the line in the sand. My hope is that a year from now I look back and wince at how rough this is.
Bleeding time: 30 minutes
